Screening to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the passing of local Derry actor Ronan Downey who plays the lead role of Danny Mc Erlane, My Dear Palestrina also features early performances from Liam Neeson and Valerie Lilley in supporting roles.

Based on Bernard MacLaverty’s short story, this touching film has rarely been screened since its initial airing as part of the "BBC2 Playhouse" series in 1980.

A young boy (Ronan Downey) in 1950s Northern Ireland inherits his grandfather's piano. His family knows nothing of serious music but sends him to the local piano teacher (Eleanor Bron) thinking it might lead to a career as a dance band musician. The teacher finds that he has undeniable talent and teaches him to appreciate classical music as well as to play. He forms a close bond with her but a trip to Belfast for him to sit an exam has unforeseen consequences.
