- **Event Name**: Weaving with Waste Workshop
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 13 Jun, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sat, 13 Jun, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Make beautiful textiles out of rubbish with Sarah Cooke
Traditional weaving with a twist! Join weaver Sarah Cooke, where you will incorporate colourful materials which are often thrown away, such as plastic packaging, old phone cables, fabric off-cuts, to make a unique wall hanging, table mat or small bag. All materials supplied, but you can bring your own ‘waste materials’ if you want.

This workshop is inspired by World 240, contributed by a participant in France. It is 2029 and fast fashion companies are adopting a farm-to-closet strategy and a shift towards sustainability and ethical responsibility. In addition, fast fashion companies prioritise sustainable pieces by repurposing fabrics and favouring local production, strengthening community ties and reduce the impact of global supply chains. fashionfictions.org/the-worlds/

Materials
Sarah will provide everything you need, but you are welcome to bring some of your own materials too. At the end of the session, you can choose to buy the loom, pick-up stick and shuttle for £18.

You will go home looking at your rubbish in a new way!

Additional information
Lunch is available to purchase from The River Kitchen at the Museum of Making or various eateries and shops in the city centre.

About Sarah Cooke

With a Fine Art degree, and after many years teaching and organising the Arts courses for Bristol Adult Learning Service, Sarah now has the time to focus on her own creativity. Sarah has been weaving for over 15 years, and feels that she still has so much to learn. Starting with tapestry weaving on a simple frame loom, then exploring the many ways of weaving on a rigid heddle loom, Sarah then bought an 8-shaft table loom, which opened up endless possibilities.

Sarah is now weaving with unconventional materials – colourful plastic packaging, old clothes and old cables, and ‘Weaving with Waste’ took off. Not only does this mean that she buys much less new yarn (better for the planet!), but the range of colours and textures are so exciting and unexpected. Sarah loves to encourage others to learn how to weave, and to get as much enjoyment from this craft as she does.
