Mark your calendars for Derby’s biggest event of the year! The 14th Annual Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest presented by AT&T will be held this year on June 13 & 14. This fun, free family event will be held at High Park, 2801 E. James St.
There will be a full slate of activities, including the People’s Choice Tasting Contest, Smile Safari and Derby Orthodontics Kids Corner, live music on the Don Hattan Mainstage, and tasty food options on the Security 1st Title Food Truck Row.
Returning this year is the 3rd Annual Smokin’ 5K sponsored by the Derby Recreation Commission, and the Hot Wheels for Hot Meals Car Show sponsored by the Derby Rotary Club.
The Derby Public Library will also hold its 5th Annual Medallion Hunt. Starting Monday, June 9, look for clues at DerbyLibrary.com, and Facebook page, @DerbyLibrary. The winner will receive a $100 gift card and BBQ prize package.

Buy a $5 tasting kit to try six two-ounce samples of competition pulled pork. Tasting kits will go on sale at 6:30 p.m. at the tent south of the amphitheater (new location this year)

The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Cook-off Masters Series and the Lamar Advertising Backyard BBQ Cook-off for aspiring pitmasters will take place on the east side of High Park pond.
Team registration is open at DerbyBBQ.com.
Attendees can sample pulled pork prepared by BBQ teams on Friday, June 13, at the People’s Choice Tasting Contest at 7 p.m. Team-prepared BBQ will not be available on Saturday, June. 14.

There will be a break in activities from 3 to 6 p.m. for BBQ awards.

On-site parking will be available in the paved lots and grass parking will be available accessible from the east Madison Ave. entrance. An ADA parking lot will be available on the north side of the Zimmerman Family Shelter. We will also have the All States Home Improvement Shuttles to get you to the action faster. Look for a golf cart shuttle for a complimentary ride. The Derby Dash will also provide shuttle service.
