If you’ve already read it, you can trade with someone else for a book you’d rather read.After the exchange, you’re free to stay, chat, talk about books, connect with new friends, enjoy a glass of wine, or get cozy and read some of your new book.Okay, not exactly a “true” Jólabókaflóð, but you get the gist…From what I understand, Jólabókaflóð (pronounced yo-la-bok-a-flot) is an Icelandic holiday tradition that begins with the arrival of the Bókatíðindi, a free catalog of every new book published that year. The tradition dates back to World War II and has evolved into a beloved (though somewhat commercialized) custom: people exchange books on Christmas Eve and spend the night reading together, often with chocolate, creating a cozy “Christmas book flood.”As a book lover myself, and someone staying home for the holidays this year, I really just wanted to host a cozy evening with like-minded people.
