Analog Salon invites people to unplug, slow down, and share space through the crackle of vinyl and the honesty of personal storytelling.Each Analog Salon unfolds in three intentional phases:Social Mixer & DJ Sets (6:00–7:00 PM)Arrive to a room full of groove-worthy vinyl, drinks, and good energy. Local DJs spin genre-crossing, vinyl-only sets to warm up the room and encourage curiosity and conversation.Storytelling Through Music (7:00–8:00 PM)We welcome a featured guest—someone with a story to tell and a record to match. His path then took him from Chicago to Saratoga, and eventually to Berlin as an exchange student in 1971. There, he immersed himself in German language and literature before returning to the U.S. to study theology and literature, with a focus on Jonathan Edwards, the Puritans, and William Faulkner.After graduating, Thornton deliberately postponed graduate school to pursue a wide range of jobs and experiences. He worked in journalism, construction, restaurants, as a garden laborer, and even as a taxi driver before settling into landscape design. He later earned a graduate degree in Landscape Design from the Conway School and served as Landscape Director at the Auraria Higher Education Center, where he developed sustainable horticulture projects and innovative irrigation systems.Beyond his professional work, Thornton devoted significant time to education and public service. He volunteered with Denver Public Schools, taught as an Artist in Residence through Young Audiences, and later became an English and Language Arts teacher. He taught at several schools before joining Denver School of the Arts, where he taught British Literature, American Literature, Journalism, and AP English Language. He was known for integrating music, art, and personal storytelling into his classroom, encouraging students to explore ideas through both traditional and emerging media.Throughout his life, Thornton maintained a deep connection to music and writing. He wrote music criticism under the pen name Elk Bellows, contributing to publications including The Denver Post and The Rocky Mountain News.
