He was born and raised in Fort Collins and then lived in Chicago for eight years, where he was a professor of Media Studies at Northeastern Illinois University. He has also taught at Colorado State University and Wilbur Wright College. He has shown work and performed both solo and in collaboration at The Whitney, The MoMa and PS1, The Art Institute of Chicago, Hyde Park Art Center, Clyfford Still Museum, and The Geffen Contemporary. He currently releases his solo music with RVNG Intl, and has previously released numerous albums on many well-regarded independent record labels. He is also a member of the ambient jazz quartet Fuubutsushi. He and his partner are raising a child while living and working to restore 2.5 acres of land in Southeastern Larimer County, where they garden and glean what they can from the earth.
