Worship this Sunday: “Flourishing Together: Annual Flower Ceremony” with guest minister, Rev. Lora Brandis

Unitarian minister Norbert Capek created the first flower ceremony for his congregation in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1923.  He asked each congregation member to bring a flower to church—from their garden, field, or roadside. Gathered in one vase, their combined beauty was dazzling, yet each blossom retained its uniqueness. Each member was then invited to bring a different flower home with them, recognizing unity in diversity. You are invited to bring a flower to the worship service this Sunday to celebrate the annual flower ceremony and how we need each other to flourish. If you forget - don’t worry - there will be plenty of flowers to share.

This week’s service will feature the music of Tracy Kirk and Cathy Sassen.

Reverend Lora Brandis is a community minister who provides preaching to local congregations and serves as an on-call hospital chaplain. She is also a certified spiritual director. Two days a week she and her husband Frank take care of twin grandchildren Rose and James. Lora previously served congregations in Utah, Idaho, California, and Texas.

Outreach Denton is a nonprofit organization committed to providing mutual support, resources, organizing, advocacy, and fun with the LGBTQ+ community in Denton, Texas. OUTreach Denton was created out of a need assessed by the members of the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship who in 2010 recognized that Denton needed a place where LGBTQIA youth and adults could gather for mutual support, resources, organizing, advocacy, and fun.
