We are seeking a diverse, multigenerational company of strong actors, singers, movers, and storytellers to bring the people, music, mystery, and magic of Dickens’ London to life. AUDITIONS Monday, September 7 & Tuesday, September 8, 2026 7:00–10:00 PM Denton’s Historic Campus Theatre 214 W. Hickory St. Denton, TX 76201 WHAT TO PREPARE Please prepare 32 bars of any song that showcases both your vocal range and your ability to act through song. Your selection does not need to be from A Christmas Carol. Please bring sheet music in the correct key with your 32-bar cut clearly marked. An accompanist will be provided. We want to hear you sing, but just as importantly, we want to see you tell a story! Additional readings and/or movement may be requested during the audition process. CALLBACKS Wednesday, September 9, 2026 7:00–10:00 PM Callbacks will be held by invitation. Performers invited to callbacks will be notified following the initial auditions and may be asked to sing selections from the show, read from the script, and/or participate in movement. Not receiving a callback does not necessarily mean you are no longer being considered for the production. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN EBENEZER SCROOGE — Adult Sharp, intelligent, guarded, and famously miserly. Scrooge carries the emotional journey of the production, moving from bitterness and isolation through fear, regret, vulnerability, and ultimately extraordinary joy. Requires a strong actor and storyteller who can navigate comedy as well as deeply emotional dramatic work. BOB CRATCHIT — Adult Scrooge’s hardworking and underpaid clerk. Warm, patient, optimistic, and deeply devoted to his family. Bob provides much of the emotional heart of the story. Strong singer/actor with warmth and sincerity. JACOB MARLEY — Adult Scrooge’s deceased business partner, condemned to wander after death because of the selfish life he led. Marley returns with an urgent warning for his former partner. Requires a commanding, theatrical presence and strong character work. GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST — Adult, Any Gender Mysterious, perceptive, and otherworldly. This spirit guides Scrooge through the memories that shaped the man he became. We are looking for a performer who can bring a distinctive physical and emotional presence to the role. GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT — Adult, Any Gender Joyful, commanding, generous, humorous, and larger than life. This spirit introduces Scrooge to the celebrations and struggles happening all around him. Requires charisma, strong vocals, and a performer who can command the stage. GHOST OF CHRISTMAS YET TO COME — Teen/Adult, Any Gender Silent, mysterious, and frightening. This role communicates primarily through movement, physical storytelling, and presence. Particularly suited to a strong physical actor or mover. FRED — Young Adult/Adult Scrooge’s cheerful and good-hearted nephew. Charming, energetic, optimistic, and sincere. Fred refuses to allow his uncle’s bitterness to diminish his own joy. Strong singer/actor. MRS. CRATCHIT — Adult Bob’s loving and fiercely protective wife. Practical, spirited, compassionate, and devoted to her family. Warmhearted but certainly not afraid to express exactly how she feels about Scrooge. TINY TIM — Child The youngest Cratchit child. Gentle, loving, optimistic, and full of hope. Requires a young performer with natural sincerity, confidence onstage, and the ability to sing. MR. FEZZIWIG — Adult Scrooge’s joyful former employer. Generous, exuberant, welcoming, and gloriously larger than life. A terrific character role for a performer with strong comic instincts, energy, and personality. MRS. FEZZIWIG — Adult Mr. Fezziwig’s equally enthusiastic partner. Warm, welcoming, energetic, and always ready for a celebration. Requires a strong character actor with great comic instincts and personality. YOUNG SCROOGE — Young Adult Scrooge before ambition and the pursuit of wealth completely overtook him. The audience should recognize glimpses of the man he will eventually become while still seeing the hopeful young man he once was. Strong singer/actor. BELLE — Young Adult The great love of Young Scrooge’s life. Intelligent, compassionate, emotionally grounded, and strong enough to recognize when Scrooge’s priorities have changed. Requires a strong singer and an actor capable of genuine emotional honesty. YOUNG PERFORMERS WANTED We are especially looking for children to fill the younger roles in the production. Young performers will play an important part in creating the families, streets, celebrations, and spirit of Dickens’ London. Opportunities include Tiny Tim, the Cratchit children, and additional younger featured and ensemble roles. We are looking for children who enjoy performing, can take direction, and are comfortable singing and moving onstage. Previous theatre experience is welcome but not required. FEATURED ROLES & ENSEMBLE The ensemble is an essential storytelling force in this production. Ensemble members will transform into the people of Victorian London and may portray townspeople, merchants, workers, charity collectors, party guests, Fezziwig revelers, family members, spirits, and other featured characters throughout Scrooge’s journey. Many ensemble performers may portray multiple characters. We are looking for strong storytellers, not simply background singers. Bring us personality, imagination, vocal energy, and a willingness to create memorable characters. OUR CASTING APPROACH Our Dickensian London will reflect the diversity of the community creating it. Theatre Denton welcomes performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, body types, abilities, and backgrounds. Unless specifically essential to the storytelling, roles are not restricted by race or ethnicity. We are seeking a company that is multigenerational, multicultural, and reflective of our community. Adult roles will be cast with flexibility rather than according to predetermined numerical age ranges. We encourage you to audition for any role with which you connect.
