Mike Guiney is a published poet, essayist and book/music critic.
As a songwriter Mike has collaborated with local musicians and those further afield. His writing is informed by 40 years of day jobs, including a brief stint in the military, working on a land survey crew, kitchen work on river cruise boat, several years as steelyard laborer and 28 years in fire service.
His lyrics have received recognition and awards, both south of the border and closer to home. American Songwriter Magazine have awarded him with several guitars and named him Grand Prize winner on two occasions (2015, 2019), flying him to Nashville for co-write and recording sessions
Mike’s first album (The Grace of Eloquence) is now out, on Wolfe Island Records. The album features a number of special guests including Chris Brown (Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Barenaked Ladies, Tragically Hip, Big Sugar), Jason Mercer (Ron Sexsmith, Ani Difranco), Tony Scherr (Norah Jones, Bill Frisell), Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson, E.L. Harris, Rodney Crowell) and others.
