Lunar New Year Fest

According to the lunisolar calendar, 2026 is officially the Year of the Horse, a symbol of energy, strength, and forward movement. Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival, originated in China but is widely celebrated across many East and Southeast Asian cultures today. Despite the different regional customs, stories, and traditions, the celebration shares common values, such as taking time to reflect on the past year, strengthening connections with family, and welcoming the new year with intentions of health, harmony, and good fortune. This festival is not only about celebration, but also about togetherness, cultural exchange, and creating space to learn from one another.

And unofficially… it’s also the year of Draco Malfoy. His sudden popularity comes from the Chinese translation of “Malfoy”, Ma-er-fu, which contains the words for horse and fortune, perfectly aligning with this year.

To celebrate, join us on 7th March for a themed festival, inspired by Lunar New Year at The Social Hub Delft! From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, our space will transform into a festive hub of cultural activities, games, and workshops, organized in collaboration with Red Dragon Social Club.

Throughout the fest, you can take part in:
• Mahjong workshop – Learn the basics of this classic game and its cultural significance.
• Paper cutting workshop – Create intricate designs that reflect long-standing symbolism connected to celebration, good fortune, and the welcoming of a new year.
• Aperitif with Eastern and Southeast Asian-inspired snacks – Taste traditional food from Thailand, Korea, Vietnam and China often enjoyed during Lunar New Year celebrations.

Whether you’re celebrating Lunar New Year for the first time or it’s a familiar tradition, this event is open to anyone who is curious about different cultures and wants to welcome the year ahead together!
