- **Event Description**: The Delaware City Library is pleased to announce a special exhibition celebrating the city’s Bicentennial Year in 2026: An Aerial Photographic Retrospective of Delaware City from the Early 20th Century. The month-long exhibit opens January 9, 2026, and highlights the remarkable work of Benjamin Gardner “BG” Carpenter, one of Delaware’s earliest and most adventurous aerial photographers. Carpenter, who lived in Delaware City from 1922 until his passing in 1962, was known for leaning out of his bi-plane with a 45-pound camera to capture sweeping aerial views of the region. His striking photographs document Delaware City, Fort DuPont, the Port of Wilmington, and surrounding landscapes during a formative time in the area’s history. The exhibit is available for viewing from January 10 - February 12 during the Library's open hours.
This Bicentennial-year celebration is a collaborative effort of the Delaware City Library, the City of Delaware City, Delaware City Bicentennial Committee, and Main Street Delaware City, Inc. Selected matted and framed historic photographs will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Delaware City Library.
