- **Event Name**: For Whom a Flag Can Be: Contemporary Art Talk by Luca Molnar
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 25 Jul, 2026 at 06:00 pm – Sat, 25 Jul, 2026 at 07:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Stetson University Associate Professor Luca Molnar examines how contemporary artists reinterpret the American tradition of protest through works that challenge and expand the meaning of the flag, and who it represents.

Faith Ringgold's exhibition The People's Flag Show, Dread Scott's What is the Proper Way to Display a U.S. Flag?, and David Hammons' African-American Flag interrogate the loaded symbol of the U.S.-American flag. In conjunction with the exhibition Our Flag in American Art: 1935-2026, this talk by Luca Molnar will focus on how minoritized contemporary artists respond to the very American practices of protest, highlighting artwork that reimagines what and for whom a flag can be.

Luca Molnar is an Associate Professor in Creative Arts at Stetson University. Her research and work focus on histories of lesser-known woman’s resistance to state abuse perpetrated through medical, judicial, or labor systems. Her first book, The Mother Game, is an experimental, collaborative artist book of text and images created with Kat Shannon. Other recent works include Worker Bees, a thirty-eight foot mural installed at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando, which highlights Floridian farmworkers and their advocates.
