The History of Drag is part of the larger Queer History Initiative, a project created by Volusia Pride to celebrate, honor, and share the rich cultural legacy of LGBTQ+ communities. Through storytelling, images, and historical highlights, this mobile display explores the art, activism, and resilience that have shaped drag culture across generations.

Designed as a traveling exhibit, The History of Drag brings queer history into the public spaces where it belongs — educating, inspiring, and sparking conversation throughout our community.

For one weekend only, the exhibit will transform the Volusia Pride Community Space into a pop-up gallery experience where visitors can explore the evolution of drag from ancient times to early underground performances to its modern cultural impact.

The weekend kicks off with an Opening Reception on Friday, March 27 from 7–9 PM, featuring music, light snacks, and mimosas as we celebrate the opening of the exhibit together. The gallery will also be open Saturday, March 28 from 2–7 PM and Sunday, March 29 from 1–4 PM for visitors to explore at their own pace.

This event is open to all ages and free to attend. Donations are appreciated and help support Volusia Pride’s ongoing education, arts, and community programming.
