At 1:30 p.m., Luther College Biology Professor Eric Baack will present “Why the Prairie is Green: How Prairie Plants Defend Themselves from the Animals That Eat Them.” The presentation will explore the fascinating strategies prairie plants use to survive and thrive in the face of grazing animals and insect herbivores.

At 2:15 p.m., Enya Wallace, a Luther College Biology and English major, will lead a guided walk titled “Nature Connections and Wellness Benefits.” Participants will learn about the positive impacts that spending time in nature can have on physical and mental well-being while experiencing the prairie firsthand.

The afternoon concludes at 3:00 p.m. with “Flower Shadow Watercolor,” an art activity led by Sara Kuboushek of Art Haus. Participants will create watercolor artwork inspired by prairie flowers and natural forms.

This program is open to the public and is free for all ages, sponsored by Decorah Parks and Recreation.
