We need team members/paddlers specifically, and just participants in general, to come out there, it will be a fun day! Speaking of which, the day is Saturday, May 9, 2026, starting with the "dotting of the eye" of the dragon at 8:30 AM, at Point Mallard Aquatic Center beach, and the link for more information is t-festival/. Most everyone is familiar with this event, but if not, it is a huge draw with many teams and many people out there; there will be food and drink, and we will have a Rotary tent set up at which to headquarter and hang out. And, our own (formerly) Ed Nichols is emcee and of course, he is always entertaining!Here’s the deal: The board has graciously agreed to pay the initial registration fee of $1500.00 and it is a fundraiser, so I’m planning to pass the hat and take up contributions at one or more Rotary meetings, so everybody can participate in this worthy and fun cause. PLUS, you can contribute online, or use the below link; just make sure you mark "Rotary Dragon Boat Team" so we will get the credit. Any individual paddler who raises $100.00 or more as well as the whole team if $2500.00 is surpassed, gets a T-Shirt. And you say you're not the World's Greatest Paddler? No worries - we will have on-site training sessions (hopefully at least two) the week before the event!I need 21 volunteers who want to have fun and raise money for a great cause! This is made up of 20 paddlers, and one (1) drummer whose job is to dress up and act crazy, but mainly to keep the beat for the paddlers. The company that runs this will provide a professional steerer/oarsman so we don’t go off course. We will have to have at least eight (8) women, and spouses and older children/grandchildren are welcome to come and paddle, the only requirement being that they have to be at least 15 years of age.
