- **Event Name**: Field Trip: Urban Wildlife Safari at Clyde Shepard Nature Preserve
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 12:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Ready to take your learning outdoors? Join Trees Atlanta, Amphibian Foundation, and Birds Georgia for the in-the-field portion of our winter Trees and Animals series! Together we’ll stroll through Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve, exploring everything from the forest floor to the canopy above. Along the way, our experts will point out features of the forest that help—or hinder—Atlanta’s native wildlife, and share how small habitat choices can make a big difference.

Keep your eyes (and ears!) open… you might just spot some of the amazing species we’ve been talking about in the wild!

This field session is a great opportunity to experience Atlanta’s urban forest up close! We will have the chance to observe local wildlife and get inspiration for opportunities to support trees and animals in our own yards or neighborhood greenspace.

About the instructors:

Amanda Dahlgren is the Education Coordinator and Lab Manager for The Amphibian Foundation. She is a certified Master Herpetologist, Southeastern Master Herpetologist, and Level 1 Venomous Snake Handler. She is passionate about ecological education and outreach, especially in regards to animals typically considered “gross” or “scary”.

Savannah Tello is Trees Atlanta’s Forest Restoration Coordinator and an ISA-certified Arborist. She manages habitat restoration including invasive plant removal at 18 green spaces in Atlanta and East Point. Savannah hosts Trees Atlanta’s Forest Stewardship Training Program every October to educate the public about how to restore their local greenspaces. Before working in forests, Sav spent two years specializing in meadow habitat restoration for Trees Atlanta. Savannah grew up in Fayetteville, GA and got her degree in Biology with a concentration in Environmental Science from Georgia Tech.
