Hey y'all, it's time to run away to the DESERT!!! 🌵
I posted about this in November, and I'm so excited to get this officially moving after seeing all the interest! Decided March would be the best time to go as temperatures are still moderate, and flights are affordable (if you aren't driving)!
Death Valley NP is so underrated, there's plenty of BLM/dispersed (free!) camping available, and the sights are to die for - no pun intended 😉 we will camp together, go on hikes and make new Outsider friends!
So here's the plan...
WHEN: March 19-23rd, it's a Thursday through Monday
WHERE: The current plan is to set up camp at Pads Campground, on 190 (coordinates to come). Based on feedback we may move deeper into the park, but the goal is to stay on the East side of the park for those flying in and coming from LAS and closer to civilization since this trip will require advance planning. Important: there are NO amenities; this is completely pack in, pack out camping. This spot is also subject to change.
WHO: All of you beautiful people; bring a friend!!
HOW: This is completely up to you! You can bring your van, get a small group and rent a camper van (so many options out of Las Vegas!), fly in and tent camp, etc.. flights from DFW are under $300 right now
MEALS: The logistics of group meals for dispersed camping is beyond what I have time to plan right now, so meals and any food will be all on your own! Please feel free to use the discussion board if you'd like to group up with a few people to plan your meals together!
*A packing/items to consider list will be posted later*
ITINERARY:
Thursday- we will all fly or drive in, do introductions and set up at the campsite. There should be time to explore the surrounding areas before coming back to make dinner, have drinks (if that's your vibe), play games (with prizes??👀), etc
Friday- Get up and make your breakfasts/coffee, then head to the legendary Badwater Basin! We want to do this first before it gets really warm. On the way back there's plenty more hikes to decide from; Zabrinskie Point, Golden Canyon (I love this one!), Artists Palette if open, Devil's Gold Course, etc. Grab supplies from Furnace Creek area if needed, and head back to the campsite for dinner
Saturday- This is the day to head deeper into the park! The sand dunes and beyond- there's several mountains to drive around and hikes to choose from!
Sunday- Personally I'd like to head back to Vegas and spend the afternoon there, stay the night and fly out Monday! If everyone wants to do that we can find fun accommodations for the whole group but if not, Sunday is a "do whatever you'd like day" (or travel back home if you need to)! I understand the big city isn't for everyone, so no pressure to join this part and please feel free to stay out near DVNP!
I'm so excited for everyone to come together, old and new friends from different states, and do what we do best which is exploring the outdoors! Updates with activities will be posted as we get closer to the event but please as always, never hesitate to reach out directly with any questions!
