- **Event Name**: Greenfield Village field trip for Windsor-Essex Homeschoolers
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 25 Sep, 2026 at 10:00 am (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: Field trip to Greenfield Village: Friday, September 25, 2026.
.
The group will meet at 10AM in front of the main ticket window for the Village, where Courtney Chamberlain will hand out everyone's entry tickets.
.
Late arrivers will cause others to have to wait outside to receive their ticket, so please be on time 🙂
.
Village hours are 9:30AM - 5:00PM and participants are free to go where they want upon entry.
.
Please direct any questions to the event leader Courtney Chamberlain (c_chamb@live.com), who is well-versed in the Greenfield Village policies and experience, and is happy to answer your questions.
.
There is a 10-student minimum (ages 5-18) in order to proceed with the field trip and receive the discounted rate (more than half off). If we can not achieve 10 participating students, we will try again for a trip in the spring of 2027.
.
.
PRICE LIST:
The Village is $19.75 CAD ($14 USD) per child and adult. Children aged 4 and under are free. Babies and children of all ages are welcomed, and adult family members are also welcome and will receive the discounted rate.
.
Additional $7.05 CAD ($5 USD) per person to add the open-air train ride that traverses the entire Village. This must be paid in advance, otherwise it's $7 USD purchased at ticket window locations throughout the Village.
.
Additional $9.87CAD ($7 USD) per person for a train ride + 1 carousel ride. Must be purchased in advance, otherwise it's $10 USD purchased at ticket window locations throughout the Village.
.
Additional $4.23 CAD ($3 USD) per person to ride the Carousel. This can be purchased in advance or on site for, but there is no discount for purchasing the Carousel in advance.
.
Parking fees are waived for all adult participants' vehicles.
.
Payment must be made in full by September 18 to Courtney Chamberlain, via etransfer to: c_chamb@live.com. Please submit your payment as soon as possible to confirm your spot. Include the names of each child and adult attending, as well as the quantity of each optional attraction you are adding on, if applicable (e.g. train ride/carousel).
.
Field trip prices are listed at the bottom of the website https://inhub.thehenryford.org/experiences-field-trips/field-trips/greenfield-village-field-trips
.
.
NOTES:
This experience is only the Greenfield Village, not the Henry Ford Museum ($6 USD additional) as it is not recommended combining both attractions on the same day.
.
The educational "Giant Screen Experience" films may be added for $5 USD per student and adult, and run approx. 45 min long.
Field trip guests can pay onsite for this experience themselves, rather than in advance through the group leader, as this is the rate for guests that have already purchased another entry ticket to Greenfield Village or the Henry Ford Museum.
.
Film concessions are available at reasonable prices.

Know before you go:
Crossing the border into the USA requires a valid passport or Nexus card, although children under age 16 can cross using an original or copy of their birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a Naturalization Certificate, or a Canadian Citizenship Card. Confirm with the USAGov website: https://www.usa.gov/from-canada-mexico-caribbean
.
Certain foods are prohibited at border crossing into the USA: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/traveling-with-ag-products/traveling-united-states-canada-land-borders
.
The Village is a primarily outdoor activity spanning approx. 90 acres of attractions, also containing a working farm — I recommend close-toed shoes for this. Even though the Village is very clean, it can get dusty near the farm.
.
There more than 80 original historic structures with professional, period-costumed actors who explain the histories of the buildings and the activities that took place there. There are glass blowing and pottery-making demonstrations (items for sale in the shops).
.
There is a well-appointed enclosed playground with water misting machines for hot weather, multiple venues for dining, as well as some of the best frozen custard around (near the carousel).
.
You will see horse-drawn carriages riding by, as well as historic Model-T cars on the roads. Otherwise, the Village has no car traffic and is a pedestrian-only environment.
.
Visitors can bring in any food or drink they would like (except alcohol), as well as coolers, strollers, and wagons. Among many food locations, there is a large dining hall called "A Taste of History," where there are large table spaces and historic meal options for purchase. I have brought my own food into this place many times with no issues and just purchased drinks or a few snacks.
.
There is a massive open field in the middle of the Village where you can put down a picnic blanket for lunch or a rest, play with toys, soccer balls, etc.
