- **Event Description**: Unforgiven, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, winner of four Academy Awards including Best Film and Best Director, stands out as an unparalleled masterpiece of American film. We follow the story of William Munny, a poor widower and father of two trying to make a life for his family in the isolated and brutal American west. Munny’s children only know their father as a good man, redeemed by their deceased mother. They know little of his former life as one of the most brutal outlaws to roam the West until Munny is recruited by a self-styled outlaw calling himself “The Schofield Kid” who seeks his help to collect a bounty and K*ll a pair of cowboys after they brutalized and disfigured a prostitute.

Thirty-five years later, do we understand Unforgiven as a “revisionist western” which attempted to add art and seriousness to the western genre? Is it a bookend to the career of Clint Eastwood, who began his career playing the kinds of men Munny does all he can to avoid regressing into? Is Unforgiven a disturbing examination of the fluid nature of morality as the viewer quietly cheers for Munny as he reembraces his violent tendencies, even he admits: “we all have it coming kid”?

These themes and more will be the focus of this examination into this new classic of American cinema.
