- **Event Description**: Join Ukwakhwa for a series of Black Ash Basket Repair classes designed to help community members care for and preserve baskets that hold cultural, practical, and personal significance.

Over the past several years, participants in our Field to Basket program have learned to harvest black ash, prepare materials, and weave functional baskets for food preparation and daily use. As these baskets have been put to use, many community members have asked how to repair broken splints, worn rims, and other signs of wear. This series was created in response to that need.

Whether you have a black ash basket passed down through your family, one you made yourself, or a basket rescued from a thrift store or antique mall, bring it along and learn hands-on repair techniques in a welcoming community setting. Participants will have access to tools, materials, and guidance throughout the evening.

Drop in anytime during class hours.

The first 7 participants in each class will receive a free basket repair kit to continue their work at home.

By learning to repair our baskets, we strengthen the foundation of Native arts in Wisconsin, honor the labor and knowledge invested in these pieces, and ensure that traditional basketry remains a living practice for future generations.
