The Virginia Quilt Museum invites you to dive into the quilts, art, and writings of Jean Ray Laury through a five-month virtual book and sewing club led by quilt historian and educator Tara Miller of The Quilt District.

This interactive program meets one Saturday per month from February through June, from 2:30–4:00 pm Eastern, via Zoom, and is limited to 20 participants.

Cost:
$150 per person

The first session will introduce Jean Ray Laury and her influential career. The next three meetings will each focus on a different Laury book, with participants creating a project inspired by her patterns, motifs, and artistic style. The final meeting will include a wrap-up discussion and time for participants to share their completed work.

At the conclusion of the program, participants may choose to have their projects included in a recorded virtual slideshow hosted on the Virginia Quilt Museum’s YouTube channel.

To support participation, all sessions will be recorded and shared with registered attendees.

About Jean Ray Laury:
Jean Ray Laury (1928–2011) was a pivotal figure in the quilt revival of the 1960s and 1970s. An artist, quilter, and writer, her career spanned more than four decades. She was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame in 1982 and continues to inspire generations of makers to experiment, innovate, and create with intention.

Participants should obtain their own copies or borrow from a library. All titles are out of print but available through used booksellers.

About the Instructor:
Tara Miller is a quilt historian, pattern designer, teacher, and speaker who helps quilters find their voices through fearless fabric play, thoughtful design, and meaningful connections to quilting history.
