Mary Lynn Michal | Int/Adv Hammered Dulcimer
Class Description: This class is designed for Intermediate and Advanced Hammered Dulcimer players. Students should have a basic understanding of the instrument’s layout, be familiar with string names, and be able to play a few tunes. Together, we’ll focus on improving our sound and playing more expressively with dynamics as we learn a new tune. Mary Lynn is comfortable teaching all levels of Hammered Dulcimer and has a passion for helping you take the next step in your playing.
Mary Faith Rhoads-Lewis | Beg/Int. Mountain Dulcimer
Class Description: This class will concentrate on dulcimer fundamentals. We will cover strumming and picking, using the different dulcimer tunings, emphasizing the beautiful drones that make our instrument special, and discussion of the different modes that are used on the instrument. We will take songs and tunes and develop them from simple melody to arranged piece, dealing with the innate difficulties the traditionally fretted dulcimer presents. Some experience on the dulcimer will be helpful, but the teacher will also work with beginners.
Hunter Walker | Int/Adv Mountain Dulcimer
Class Description: You’ve boiled some cabbage and you’ve learned some chords. We’re going to use some approachable West Virginia tunes as a vehicle to learn some skills to help you use the dulcimer in an Old-Time jam session or string band setting. We’ll address skills on how to pick up melodies you don’t know and make them your new favorites to play. This will be taught in D-A-d tuning. This class is for Intermediate and Advanced Players to take their skills to a new level. Students are encouraged to bring a capo.
