About the event

Hark! The Sound of Stories feat. Roxanne de Bastion
Music inspired by stories and writing - this event themed around the family stories, from World War II to 2025.

About this Event

Hark! The Sound of Stories returns to Darlington's Crown Street library with a FREE TO ATTEND show (but tickets must be booked).

Hark! brings you the best music inspired by stories and poems, and this time we focus on family histories- every family has its stories to tell, and we bring you two songwriters exploring the raw emotion, love, joy and grief, of discovering and recording their family stories and poems as musical memoir.

Creative tour-de-force and trailblazing independent musician and author Roxanne de Bastion will perform music from her album The Piano Player of Budapest, which accompanies the book by the same title. The Piano Player of Budapest is the story of Roxanne's grandfather, a renowned Hungarian musician who survived the holocaust. The album Stephen de Bastion's music back to life, beautifully re-imagined and curated by Roxanne, and was launched at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The book was published by Little Brown, to glowing reviews in the national press. We are very excited to have Roxanne bringing her talent to Darlington.

This set will be introduced by a reading from The Piano Player of Budapest by Roxanne de Bastion.

De Bastion is support by alt-folk soul artist Frazer Lambert. Frazer, from Stockton-on-Tees, crafted his songwriting skills over many years in the cafes of Amsterdam, before taking his music around the world and back home again. There’s always a story to be told. The latest chapter in Frazer’s music navigates grief, loss and the paths they cross. Called the ‘most calming’ vocalist in North-East England, Frazer’s songs are emotional and thought-provoking reflections on his own life experiences. Expect beautifully written original songs sung with love, passion and honesty.

This set will be introduced by a reading of 'Little Robin' by John F Connor.

This event takes place in the surrounds of beautiful Crown Street Library. Though soft drinks will be on sale, if you would like to drink alcohol, we invite you to BYOB!

Doors at 7.30pm, performances begin at 8pm.

Our thanks to Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership and Cross Country, whose funding mean that, although you need to book your seat, this gig is free to attend!
