RIVER CROSSING COURSE

Taking a one-day river crossing course with OENZ is an excellent way to enhance your skills and ensure your safety before embarking on your next big adventure. Rivers are one of the most significant hazards in New Zealand’s backcountry and claim lives every year. They are unpredictable and can pose serious risks to those who are untrained.

On average, there are about four river crossing fatalities each year, with most accidents occurring in flooded rivers or side streams. (Bushcraft Manual, Fourth Edition, Mountain Safety Council, 2006)
