NAFASI CHAP CHAP & WIKIENDI LIVE -- A FULL DAY OF ART, MUSIC, and FUN!
Nafasi's CHAP CHAP is coming up! CHAP CHAP is a public art workshop for art lovers of all ages and backgrounds to come to Nafasi and learn more about art, with our member artists facilitating the activity.
This month, CHAP CHAP SELF-EXPRESSION will give you a chance to work with Mwandale Mwanyekwa (Big Mama) as she teaches about how to work with clay.
Each participant will choose a character she or he identifies with and will make a mask out of clay, representing the character in any form. Please bring at least 2 plastic shopping bags to help keep your clay from getting dry.
After the Chap Chap activity, stick around for Wikiendi Live, a music concert featuring top live African acts, Kenneth Mugabi from Uganda, Isack Abeneko (TZ), and Marahaba Band (TZ).
ABOUT APRIL'S WIKIENDI LIVE
The announcement we’ve all been waiting for // Dar’s favourite night of traditional African beats & fusion is back on April 29th from 7pm until late.
The featured artists at this Wikiendi LIVE! will include...
Marahaba Band (TZ), an ensemble of talented instrumentalists who play a mix of African tribal music fused into contemporary musical styles. This group’s amazing vocals and striking guitar work have made them popular across the region for audiences of all ages and backgrounds (aka the Nafasi audience).
Isack Abeneko (TZ), an up-and-coming local musician who aims to bring different traditional dances, melodies and rhythms to contemporary music life and provide a different musical perspective to youth who are losing connection to their musical heritage. His talent as a freelance performing artist has brought him and his 6 band members to stages around the world - and finally here to Nafasi.
Kenneth Mugabi (UG), a gifted songwriter and a soulful performer - offering global audiences an African version of neo soul. His unique use of guitar and tube fiddle earned him a top spot on the ‘Next Uganda’ competition and has since enabled him to share the stage with acts like Qwela, Joel Sebunjo, and Ali Keita. Mugabi’s debut album in 2016 has received rave reviews and enjoys massive airplay on Ugandan radio - and soon on all of your personal playlists.
// Entrance is FREE - HAKUNA KIINGILIO (though donations are accepted) & a delicious assortment of local food and drink will be available. Karibuni wote on April 29th!
