Now that I have your attention with the Winter Storm, I'll slip in new news that we have recently scheduled our yearly Storm Spotter Class... Severe Storm Season will be here before you know it. We've had 12 confirmed tornadoes in Vermilion County in the months of March & April.
The 2026 NWS-VCEMA Spotters Training Class will be on March 17th, 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Vermilion County Administration Building (2nd Floor) at 201 N. Vermilion in Danville. Open to all. Class is appr 2-2.5 hrs long.
I've attached a map to show available parking in the area in the Discussion area of this event.
Severe storm spotters are a VITAL part of the warning process! Spotters provide critical, potentially live saving information to their communities and surrounding locations and to NWS forecasters who are using the reports to help issue warnings and keep the public updated during severe weather events.
Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend a spotter class. Children (under the age of 18) are welcome to attend the class, however, they will not be considered official spotters. There is no cost for this training, just 2 1/2 hours of your time for the class.
The spotter training class is designed for people new to severe storm spotting, as well as those that need refresher training. The training is comprised of all of the information that spotters need to be effective and stay safe.
