Twining is a time-honored technique of weaving that dates back 10,000 years! In Appalachia, it has been used to create heirloom-quality rag rugs, table mats, and more, all of which are both stunning and remarkably durable. In this class, we will be crafting a 19” x 14” placemat.
Class Overview
We will start by preparing the materials and warping our looms.
Next, we will dive into twining using beginner-friendly techniques.
Important Note: Twining is a slow craft, so students will need to take their assigned loom home to weave independently in order to complete their projects by the final class.
All materials will be provided, but looms will be loaned to students and must be returned at the end of the third session. Additionally, locally made looms will be available for purchase for those who wish to continue this craft beyond the classroom. Students are welcome to bring their own fabrics if they have specific color preferences. The instructor will also provide cotton or poly/cotton sheets and pillowcases from her collection.
