The Darkhorse Series Exhibition & Talk
Ferrari Gallery is pleased to present and invite you to the Darkhorse Series By Debra Ferrari.
This is a a very special art exhibition at one of the Dallas Design District's contemporary galleries on Dragon Street to benefit the Darkhorse Lodge, a retreat for combat veterans.
This painting series started when my good frend, Maura Chippendale shared an NPR story about the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines with me in 2013. Her son had recently joined this Marine unit in California. This battalion suffered great loss during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2010- 2011. Twenty-five of the battalion's Marines were killed and 200 were wounded losing many limbs.
After hearing this tragic story, I created a painting in memory of the loss and sacrifice for these Marines.
The Darkhorse Lodge, is a non-profit organization building a retreat for combat veterans from all branches in Tennessee by Gold Star parents, Gretchen and Kirk Catherwood. The Catherwoods lost their 19 year old son, LCpl Alec E. Catherwood in 2010 in Afghanistan. The lodge broke ground this year. It has a long way to go and needs funding to complete the construction and support for operating expenses. Go to the Darkhorselodge.org for more information.
The Darkhorse nickname for the 3rd/5th sprang from the radio call sign it used during the Korean War chosen by Colonel Robert Taplett. This Marine unit was first orgnaized in 1917.
After completing the first Darkhorse painting (pictured,) Maura suggested that I create 25 paintings. I have completed six in the series as of 2017. I am excited to share 6- 7 new paintings for this up-coming exhibition in November. I donate a portion of the sale from each painting to the Darkhorse Lodge.
At 6:00 pm on November 3rd, there will be a talk with the ladies who inspired this series, Maura Chippendale, Gretchen Catherwood and the artist, Debra Ferrari.
We hope you can attend this special art event. By doing so you will be helping to support our US veterans.
Enjoy heavy hors d'ouevres, full bar, Veterans Valet, a talk with Debra Ferrari, Maura Chippendale and Gretchen Catherwood, a special take home gift and the opportunity to aquire an original Darkhorse painting on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Proceeds from the ticket sales and paintings will go to the Darkhorse Lodge.
