Drawing from his distinguished career in diplomacy, defense, intelligence, and education, he will explore what it takes to lead effectively in a rapidly changing world.

In conversation with Holdsworth President Dr. Lindsay Whorton, Dr. Gates will share historical events he witnessed firsthand and reveal how these lessons remain relevant today. About Dr. Robert M. Gates

With a career spanning eight U.S. presidents, Dr. Robert M. Gates has led in the most complex arenas imaginable—from Cold War intelligence to global military strategy to education leadership.

He served as the 22nd U.S. Secretary of Defense under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and as Director of Central Intelligence during the collapse of the Soviet Union. Gates is the only career CIA officer to rise from entry-level analyst to Director.

He also served as President of Texas A&M University and currently chairs the board of The Holdsworth Center, a Texas nonprofit dedicated to growing stronger leaders for Texas public schools.

Gates is the author of several books, including “A Passion for Leadership, “which distills lessons from his decades of reforming large institutions.
