Over the last decade, obsolete dams have been removed and modified to improve the water quality of the Cuyahoga River. Now the focus has turned to the removal of the massive Gorge Dam. Join us to hear from Summit Metro Parks Watershed Specialist Elaine Marsh about the history of dams on the Cuyahoga, what benefits come from their removal, and the status of the Gorge Dam.

Elaine Marsh currently serves as the watershed specialist for the Summit Metro Parks and has been a longtime activist advocating for the Cuyahoga River. In 1998 she co-founded Friends of the Crooked River where she serves as the Conservation Director and from 1996 to 2008, she served as the Project Director for Ohio Greenways. She is the recipient of the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ohio Government Council, was inducted into the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame in 2025 and recently a tunnel-boring machine was named in her honor.
