With more than 15 years of experience documenting Australian fungi, Thomas is the founder of Australia & New Zealand Fungus Identification and Hinterland Fungi Tours. Through his work, he brings the underground world of fungi to life revealing their beauty, complexity and crucial ecological role.

In this engaging talk, you’ll discover not only why fungi matter globally, but how they form a vitalpart of the Gold Coast’s rich biodiversity, from coastal forests to hinterland rainforests. This talk is also an invitation to get involved: through citizen mycology, using platforms like iNaturalist and Fungimap, anyone with curiosity and a camera can document local fungi, contribute to real scientific knowledge, and help protect rare or threatened species.

Whether you are a seasoned naturalist, hinterland explorer, gardener, or simply curious about the natural world around you, this will be a practical, eye-opening and locally relevant evening.
