Best known from The Klezmatics, LISA GUTKIN steps out on her own on "From Here On In," her first CD of six warm and wonderful songs featuring her vocals, fiddle, and tenor guitar. The Brooklyn native was a founding member of the downtown Celtic group Whirligig with Cillian Vallely (Lúnasa). Playing klezmer to Celtic, Appalachian to blues, Lisa has been called "one hot fiddler" by Cyndi Lauper. A Grammy-winning composer for her settings of Woody Guthrie's lyrics, Lisa has written music for and appeared in Sex & The City and on Broadway with Sting. She was in the Fast Folk house band with Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell, and has composed for film and television and appeared on Prairie Home Companion, World Cafe, Mountain Stage, PBS, and the BBC. Lisa has teamed up with such diverse artists as Susan McKeown, Natalie Merchant, Jane Siberry, The Demolition String Band, The Speakeasy String Quartet, Pete Seeger, and Theodore Bikel.
