Get to know your Feminist Bird Club Milwaukee leaders and meet up with other birders.About this EventWe'll hang in Sheridan Park for some socializing and view the nesting Bank Swallows. Bring a blanket or chair, a snack or dinner, and binoculars and/or a scope if you have them. This event is open to birders of all experience levels including anyone who's never been birding before!We will meet at the southern end of Sheridan near the intersection of Sheridan Dr and Pulaski Ave.Why Sheridan Park?Sheridan Park is a special place for a multitude of reasons. It's one of FBC MKE leader Isabelle's favorite places to bird in Milwaukee and is home to one of the largest colonies of Bank Swallows in the state. But the bluffs the swallows use are on the verge of catastrophic collapse. Erosion is a natural part of any waterfront but record-breaking, climate-driven weather events are exacerbating the problem. This threatens not only the nesting Bank Swallows, but a segment of the Oak Leaf Trail, a cherished county-wide recreational trail. We chose Sheridan Park to share a special natural phenomenon and to bring attention to this important problem our community is facing.You can learn more about the bluff collapse here and what you can do to help here.
