Apothecary 101: The Art & Science of Herbal Remedies
Step into the fascinating world of the traditional apothecary and discover how plants have been used for centuries to support health and well-being. In this hands-on introductory class, participants will learn the basics of herbal medicine, from identifying common medicinal herbs to preparing simple, safe remedies at home.
We’ll explore the history and philosophy of the apothecary tradition, discuss foundational herbs for a home herbal cabinet, and cover techniques like making infusions, decoctions, tinctures, salves, and teas. Along the way, you’ll gain an understanding of how to source herbs ethically and responsibly, and how to match plants to everyday needs like soothing a sore throat, calming stress, or easing minor skin irritations.
By the end of the session, you’ll have created a few of your own remedies to take home, along with recipes, resources, and the confidence to begin your own apothecary journey. No prior experience is necessary — just curiosity and a love of plants!
This course is a 2-hour course that will repeat on 2nd Saturdays. Children are welcome but must be with an adult if under the age of 12 yo. $10 per participant.
