He is an Alfred Fagon Award–nominated writer for Assata Taught Me, which is to be revived at Riverside Studios in May with Kalungi as director and Co-Producer. He is the winner of the inaugural Passing the Baton commission at The Bush Theatre (2017), the JMK Directing Award—the most prestigious directing award for emerging directors—and the Roland Rees Bursary. Formerly Carne Associate Director at Theatre503, Kalungi regularly works as an Acting Tutor at LAMDA. He is the founder of Sse So Productions, which develops original screen, stage, and audio projects.
