Join us for a course of 6 weekly talks exploring the secret stories behind the most famous classic horror novels: Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Machen and H.P. Lovecraft. From blood-soaked maidens to the Great God Pan, come and meet the characters of those cult classics you always meant to get around to - there’s no need to have read the books as we’ll be going ‘behind the scenes’ to see how the original versions were created and how they evolved into beloved movie monsters. We’ll be looking at the real-life inspirations, scandals and outrages behind each book, the lives of the authors, how and why they shocked their first readers, and their strange afterlives as part of pop culture.
