Beginning at 3pm, April 22 (the 4th Wednesday of the month) I will be offering mini tutorials on traditional fiber crafts. This first tutorial will be how to spin yarn. We will provide the spindles and the wool.

We were fortunate to have received some locally raised fleeces just shorn last month. One of the fleeces is washed and I will be carding it into roving we can use for the drop spindle class.  So a drop spindle can be made from many different materials, as long it has some weight and can spin to add twist to the fiber. Jessica from our Fiber Arts Gathering group had the idea of using tinker toys. It makes a very functional drop spindle that will spin fast or slow and is a good tool to learn on and make beautiful yarn.  
 (And later class subjects will include how to use the yarn such as knitting and/or weaving or crochet.)
