Join us for a small, supportive self defense class series designed to build confidence, awareness, and practical skills for staying safe.
Heather has practiced Kempo Karate for close to 25 years, earning her black belt and developing a deep understanding of practical self defense. Through that training, she spent many years working with self defense techniques that helped her move through the world with greater awareness and confidence, which she has offered to give back to our community.
The practice helped her learn how to navigate potentially dangerous situations with more presence and trust in her instincts. Wanting her children to have the opportunity to learn martial arts as well, Heather began offering classes to young people and quickly witnessed how powerful this learning can be. As students practiced simple ways to avoid trouble, and how to get out of situations when avoidance wasnโt possible. She witnessed them grow in both emotional and physical confidence.
In this series, Heather will share a gentle introduction to effective self defense skills, focusing on practical ways to recognize risk early, avoid danger where possible, and respond when needed. The class emphasizes that safety isnโt only about physical strength. Itโs also about trusting your instincts, knowing that youโre allowed to take up space, and that you donโt owe anyone politeness at the expense of your safety. Itโs about the confidence to say โnoโ and the physical tools to back that โnoโ up if it is ignored.
Participants will learn simple techniques in a supportive environment where all activities can be adapted for different physical abilities. The goal is to meet people where they are and offer practical tools that can help them feel more aware, confident, and capable in their daily lives.
