CALLING ALL HAWLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL ALUMNI
As our public middle school is being demolished, I'd like to invite former students, teachers, staff, and families to come together for a single 'class' photograph in front of what remains.
This is not a protest. It’s a moment of collective memory.
Public schools are community anchors, and before this one disappears completely, I'd like to document the people who made it matter.
📍 Location: Hawley Middle School
🗓 Date: 2/22
⏰ Time: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Come as you are. If you happen to have old merch, I encourage you to wear Hawley Middle t-shirts, hats, hoodies, etc.
This image will be shared freely with the community as a visual record of what public education has meant here. If you ever walked these halls, this photo is for you.
After the photo, anyone who wants to is invited to stay (or head to The Tavern) for an informal conversation about the wave of school closures, why public schools are pivotal, how these changes are affecting rural communities, and what we’ve seen shift over time. First-hand experiences, observations, and memories are welcome. Listening is just as important as speaking.
Who am I?
I’m a local photographer and Granville County school district alumni, and my work centers on uplifting community stories that deserve to be remembered, especially when places that shaped us are disappearing.
Let’s mark this moment together.
