This talk is about zombies. If this displeases you, then we should tell you that this talk is about epidemics. If this also displeases you, perhaps you would be interested to hear that this talk is about math.

Will all of the humans get bitten and turned into flesh-eating ghouls? Will we run out of food if we shelter in place? Can we K*ll the zombies faster than they are biting us? Should we run and hide in the country side, or take refuge in the busy city?

We can use mathematics to study a certain situation (Like a zombie epidemic) by building a mathematical model: combining different competing effects and running simulations to study and understand the different possible outcomes. In this talk, we will be building a mathematical model of a zombie epidemic and using it to understand the choices a wise mayor should make to keep their community safe.

Dr. Benjamin Tippett is a Math instructor at College of the Rockies.
