# Event Details - **Event Name**: VITA Free Tax Prep - **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 27 Feb, 2026 at 10:00 am – Fri, 27 Feb, 2026 at 01:00 pm - **Event Description**: UPDATE: Due to weather, our volunteer needed to cancel the February 20 date, instead moving it to Friday, February 27, from 10am-1pm. The March dates are still on. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will be at the Wilson Public Library in Cozad on specific Fridays in February and March (the 6th and 20th each month) from 10am-1pm. Interested persons can walk-in any time during those hours; there may be a waiting line and preparers will work on a first-come, first-served basis. Return preparers will meet with taxpayers to answer questions, prepare their returns, and review that federal and state tax returns are accurate prior to e-filing. The process typically takes approximately 45 minutes. Taxpayers should bring proof of Identification (photo ID); Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) for you, your spouse, and/or dependents; proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN; birthdates for all on the tax return; for married filing jointly, both spouses must be present; all Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099 and 1098; a copy of last year’s federal and state returns; proof of bank account and routing information if choosing direct deposit of refund (e.g. voided check); total paid to daycare provider and their tax ID; health insurance exemption certificate, if received; and all Forms 1095 Health Insurance statements. The Wilson Public Library is located at 910 Meridian Ave, Cozad NE 69130. TO HAVE YOUR TAXES PREPARED, BRING: IDENTIFICATION: • Social Security Cards of ITIN Letters for EVERYONE who will be included on the return • Photo ID for ALL tax return signers (BOTH spouses must sign if filing jointly) INCOME: • W-2s for wages, W-2Gs for gambling income • 1099s for interest, dividends, unemployment, state tax refunds, pension or 401-K distributions, and other income • Records of revenue including cash from self-employment and side hustles EXPENSES: • 1098s for mortgage interest, student loan interest (1098-E), or tuition (1098-T), statement of property tax paid • Statement of college student account showing all charges and payments for each student ton the return • Childcare receipts, including tax ID, phone number, and address for childcare provider • Records of expenses for self-employment, home-based businesses, and/or side hustles OTHER DOCUMENTATION: • Checking or Savings account information for direct deposit/direct debit • 1095-A showing marketplace insurance • Last year’s tax return, if available PLEASE NOTE: The IRS defines the scope of work that is prepared at VITA. If your return is considered “out of scope” for this site, our VITA Volunteers will not be able to prepare your return.
