The Rumors were TRUE!!!!!!
The FINAL Greasy Joe's Gravel Grind EVER will be happening on May 4th, 2025.
To end it all, we will be returning to the 2018 Greasy Joe's loop (54 miles at 3940' with two limited feed stops, if you make it that far in the loop).
As in years past, this event is a DIY ride. So, what does this mean? In the spirit of riding gravel (or riding bikes in general), you are responsible for yourself and any other rider you see who might need assistance.
Registration Fee:
It's FREE and you get a whole lot of SUFFERING!!! You can thank us after the ride. So just show up!
Parking: There are two areas to park; the MAIN parking for the ride is at Pickle Lot which is the Park & Ride at 92 New London Turnpike, West Greenwich, RI 02817 (which can be sketchy, hence the name) AND the back-up lot is the Greasy Joe's Dirt Lot at 78 New London Turnpike, East Greenwich, RI 02818 (every MTBer in RI parks here so it might be full) OR the
Course Details:
The Greasy Joe's is an adventure-challenge ride that rambles on the paved, gravel, double/single track and primitive unmaintained roads of Rhode Island. You may (and will) have to dismount for the more challenging, primitive surface types.
The loop will NOT be marked and there are no cue-sheets (as we are super lazy). Hence you have to follow the unmarked route using a GPS or some such device. Please make sure you download the course file and install it on your device before coming to the event.
Start Time:
As this is DIY a ride, the start window is from 8AM - 9AM. If you want to start earlier, that is your choice, but the feed stop might not be setup.
Things to Note:
* Helmets are required as there is a high likelihood you will crash on the loop.
* Riders must obey all traffic markings and signs as we would hate to see you get killed on the ride or just leaving the parking lot.
* Riders MUST wear a minimum of 200sq of orange as required by RI DEM as you do not want to get shot or a ticketed by DEM.
* You will find NO nature break facilities at the dirt lot, park & ride or on the course. So, we suggest you use your own toilet before you come and/or find a tree and bring TP, or whatever you might find on course.
* This event happens no matter what the weather is. We are GJ Strong!
Equipment Recommendation:
This ride is calling for cross, gravel, flat bar mountain, or the like ~good luck trying to do it on a road bike! If you do, you will become a GJ Legend (but not really). 38cc and above tire choice will serve you well. But it's your ride, so go with what works for you.
Riders should plan on carrying the following items:
* CO2 or pump
* Spare tube(s)
* Tire levers
* Hydration and nutrition
* Cellphone or something so when you had enough, you can call someone to pick you up.
