The TUDORS (Technische Universität Dresden Off their Rockers Shakespeareans) are the English Drama Group of the Department for British and American Studies at the T.U.Dresden. They have already performed 3 times in Coventry and are returning to Coventry in February 2026 to perform their new play, "I Shall Not Hate", a stage adaptation of the 2011 book of the same name by Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish.
Dr Abuelaish, who has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize was born and raised in Jabalia Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip and, as a Palestinian infertility specialist, he has worked in hospitals in Israel.
Three of his daughters were killed in an Israeli bombing of their home in Gaza in 2009, and yet he refuses to hate.
“I Shall Not Hate” has previously been turned into a film and now Marc Lalonde, the drama teacher at T.U. Dresden and the TUDORS’ Director, has adapted the story to make a new presentation of the issues involved, very much with Dr. Abuelaish’s consent, approval and enthusiasm.
The play will be performed on the evening of 20th February 2026, at 19:00, in the Nave of Coventry Cathedral which contains the Baptismal Font carved, appropriately, from a three-ton granite boulder from a hillside near Bethlehem and which was gifted as a symbol of co-operation between Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities.
Dr Abuelaish has given The TUDORS the right to perform his play as long as any profit be donated to the “Daughters for Life Foundation”, which he created in memory of his 3 deceased children.

He has also approved the staging concept: “Your vision of having multiple students embody my character, walking among the audience, is innovative, intimate, and perfectly aligned with the essence of the play: breaking down walls, reaching hearts, and reminding each of us of our shared humanity.”
The performance will be followed by a 45-minute panel discussion/Q&A with Dr Albueaish and others who are qualified by their own experiences to speak on the subject of reconciliation.
