This 250-hectare site consists of a mix of grassland and heathland adjacent to woodlands, and is at the forefront of efforts to restore dynamic, nature-rich landscapes across Exmoor.The West Exmoor National Trust team is working to restore natural processes and open up public access across the landscape. Their vision is to foster a wilder, more dynamic environment, guided by sustainable land management. This includes low density grazing with Exmoor ponies and longhorn cattle to enrich soil health and support habitats for wildflowers, birds, bees, and small mammals. Mangalitsa pigs are helping to rejuvenate the moorlands, while newly created wetlands are cared for by water buffalo. These efforts are complemented by natural regeneration, targeted tree planting, and the creation of wildflower-rich habitats, all aimed at boosting biodiversity.The project was featured on BBC Countryfile in September last year - click here for a sneak preview.What to expect?National Trust Ranger Jack Ward, will lead the visit, which will involve a 2-hour guided walk around the site with plenty of discussions.Please note that the route does involve some steep, uneven ground. Please bring suitable clothing and appropriate footwear (walking boots or wellies if wet weather).FacilitiesToilet facilities will be available at the start and end of the walk.
