Poetry From My Brain Parts is a genre-blurring spoken-word theatrical mixtape.
An electrifying fusion of performance poetry, storytelling, acting, comedy, visual art, and R&B music.
In its bold third incarnation, Poetry From My Brain Parts explores memory, identity, healing, and radical self-Black-love. This latest iteration invites audiences into a richly layered, transformative experience where vulnerability meets virtuosity.
Featuring 15 original poems from Israel’s forthcoming collection Poetry From My Brain Parts, Volume 1, the production traces an autobiographical journey through triumphs and tribulations. Grappling with emotional growth, substance abuse, resilience, and the ongoing practice of self-compassion.
The cast includes Tamora Israel, Ray Bishop, Tanoa Vaugn, and Keniqua Smith, who embody multiple facets of the poet’s inner world; past, present, and poetic voice. Bringing the text vividly to life through movement, character, and emotional range.
Directed by Tamora Israel and Dean Israel and Stage Managed by Kimberly Monteiro, this theatrical piece transforms deeply personal material into a shared communal experience.
Enhancing the performance is an immersive visual art installation by Rhode Island–based artist Alana Con. The original work, Artist Constitution, invites audiences into a one-of-a-kind, multi-sensory experience that deepens engagement with the performance through direct interaction.
