On Friday Feb 6 at 7:30pm, Poetics Corvallis presents a poetry open mic featuring Phil Merwin, vocalist and songwriter of Eugene's post-punk trio band dirtclodfight. His first poetry collection, released in December, is Songs for Hungry Ghosts. His poems blend punk rock intensity with raw emotional honesty, exploring grief, survival, and memory through the Buddhist concept of "hungry ghosts"—beings trapped by endless craving.
We will start with Phil's poetry at 7:30pm, with Open Mic to follow. Open Mic signup starts at 7:15pm. Come share poems or poetic prose that you like, by you or by another, on any topic, at our friendly free open mic in the artsy ambience of the Interzone Cafe. Or come to just listen, and let poetry dissolve, at least for a moment, the walls between us all.
More about Phil:
Songs for Hungry Ghosts was born from Phil's conversations with his late drummer Eric Johnson. The poetry collection serves as both a memorial and an origin story, revealing the poetry that always fueled dirtclodfight's music.
