Q:When is the open day?
A: 100am to midday on Saturday 4 July.
 
Q: Where is it?
A: Access is via the Tanners Sawmill carpark at 2994 Tairua Road. Turn off from SH25 towards the carpark and look out for marshals who will show you where to park.  You will then be guided to the starting point of the trail.  Please note trail access is via a private, working farm – please stick to the access route as directed by marshals and do not attempt to get there on your own.
 
Q: Who’s welcome to the open day?
A: Cyclists and e-bike riders of all abilities are welcome.  Due to operational constraints we unfortunately can’t accommodate walkers, but may look for an opportunity to do so at a later date.  As with the south bank trail, motorized vehicles such as dirtbikes, scooters and golf carts are prohibited.
 
Q: Do I need to register to attend?  Is there a cost?
A: There’s no cost (although donations are welcome) and you don’t need to register, however we ask that you please click “attending” on this page to give us a rough guide of numbers.
 
Q: How long is the trail?  How much time should we allow to ride it?
A: You’ll be able to travel just under 2km of the trail and back, so about 4km altogether.  Please allow up to an hour to be out on the trail.  This is an open day, not a race, so we encourage you to go at a leisurely pace and take in the sights.
 
Q: What’s the difficulty of the trail?
A: Similar to the south bank trail, it’s mainly flat and easy, with one small rise.

Q: Are dogs welcome?
A: Unfortunately not, as access is via a working farm.  Dogs on a lead will be welcome on the completed trail.
 
Q: Do you need volunteers to help at the open day?
A: Yes please, we’re on the lookout for more marshals.  If you’d like to help please email derrickadams277@gmail.com.
 
Q: How can I donate to the trail?
A: A full list of details on how you can support, from small one-off and regular donations to cornerstone partnerships, can be found at https://www.tairuarivertrail.org.nz/donate.html.
 
Q: Is it safe to be on a trail that’s not yet open to the public?
A: The trail surface is in good condition and the trail is mainly wide and flat.  However, as with the existing south bank trail, anyone who uses the trail does so at their own risk.

Q: When will this section of trail officially open to the public?
A: We’re aiming to open this as part of a 2.7km section starting from near the SH25 Swampy Stream bridge this summer.  Please follow us on Facebook to keep up to date on our progress.

Q: What about the bridge across the Tairua River and the remaining sections to Tairua?
A: If we’re able to raise enough funding, we hope to start construction on the Tairua River Bridge this summer, connecting this 2.7km section to the existing south bank section.  We hope to complete the bridge and remaining trail and boardwalk sections from Swampy Stream to Tairua School in the next few years, depending on funding.
