- **Event Description**: The City of Cornwall, in partnership with the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA), the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, and the Native North American Traveling College (NNATC), invites the community to a celebration of trees on Saturday, September 19, 2026.


The event kicks off at 9:30 AM at the Floral Drive entrance of Guindon Park. Organized in lead-up to National Tree Day, this gathering highlights environmental stewardship and Indigenous cultural traditions.


The NNATC will open the morning with a live performance detailing the cultural significance of trees. At approximately 11:30AM, following a traditional smudge of the area, RRCA will then lead a practical tree-planting demonstration for attendees.


After the demonstration, community members are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and plant a tree. The event features 50 trees of distinct cultural significance to the Akwesasronon (the people of Akwesasne). To thank volunteers for their time and effort, a light lunch will be provided to everyone who participates in the planting.


This community event will run rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, such as a heavy downpour or thunderstorms, a rain date will be scheduled. Participants are expected to wear closed-toe shoes and proper outdoor attire, be prepared for mosquitoes, and to bring a reusable water bottle to keep hydrated.
