A Celebration of American Music
Friday, April 10 - 7:30pm

Early folk, gospel, Western swing, and country musicians laid the groundwork for the genre we affectionately call Americana, originating with the founding mothers and fathers of country music such as Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, and the Carter Family. From the mid-20th century through the present day, a diverse group of singer-songwriters followed in their footsteps: Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bob Dylan, the Band, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, and Brandi Carlile. The passionate and accomplished musicians of Women of Americana are honoring iconic works of these luminaries as their contribution to the nation’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Christina Vane
Singer, songwriter, slide guitarist, and clawhammer banjo player Cristina Vane draws from broad and deep musical knowledge and experience in multiple genres: classic rock, 90s indie, roots, pre-war blues, old-time fiddle and banjo music, country, and bluegrass. She has toured and performed with Molly Tuttle, Bob Weir, Wynonna Judd, Sam Bush, Nikki Lane, Arlo McKinley, and Willi Carlisle, to name a few. Vane has been mentioned in Rolling Stone Country and on NPR, and she appeared in the delightful promotional video created for Ken Burns’ Country Music documentary by its sponsor, Bank of America.

Brennen Leigh
Brennen Leigh is an American singer, songwriter, and guitar and mandolin player whose matter-of-fact storytelling style has elevated her to cult icon status in Europe, Scandinavia, the United States, South America, and the United Kingdom. Her songs have been recorded by Lee Ann Womack, Rodney Crowell, Sunny Sweeney, Charley Crockett, and many others. As renowned for her musicianship as she is for her writing, Leigh caught the ear of country and folk music greats like Guy Clark and David Olney. The latter once described her performance style as follows: “Tender, violent, sentimental, foolish and wise, she is always Brennen. Confident and at ease with herself, without being a jerk about it.”

Women of Americana is produced by Eli Wolf, who has worked with a wide array of artists in diverse genres: Norah Jones, Al Green, Amos Lee, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, The Roots, Anita Baker, Wynton Marsalis, and Brittany Howard.
