Ukrainian Easter Gathering in Corner Brook: The Magic of Pysanky as a Language of Symbols
Ahead of Easter, the Corner Brook community is warmly invited to a unique cultural experience - a Ukrainian Easter Gathering and Pysanky Egg Decorating Workshop, celebrating one of Ukraine’s oldest and most meaningful traditions.
In an intimate, traditional setting, a Ukrainian hostess will demonstrate the art of decorating Easter eggs accompanied by prayers and storytelling. Every line, color, and symbol holds a deeper meaning passed down through generations, encoding wishes for happiness and prosperity; love and harmony; protection from the evil eye; the sun as a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and life...In Ukrainian culture, a pysanka is not merely decoration — it is a protective talisman, a visual prayer written in wax and color.
Pysanky is a ritual of light and silence.Traditionally, pysanky were decorated by candlelight; slowly, with prayer and focus. This is the atmosphere we invite you into: Ukrainian ritual music, togetherness, and a quiet connection to an ancient tradition. No rush. Just wax, symbols, and gentle presence.
The workshops are open to Ukrainian community members and to anyone in the wider Corner Brook community interested in learning about Ukrainian culture and traditions.
We invite everyone to join us for a magical evening of pysanky-making, an evening where art, tradition, and symbolism come together in celebration of life and renewal.
